David Dineen-Porter

A headshot of a smiling man with salt and pepper short hair, black thick-framed glasses and a light mustache and beard. He is wearing a grey t-shirt with a blue button-up shit and grey and blue patterned cardigan.

David Dineen-Porter (he/him) is a writer, podcaster and musician from the maple-drenched shores of Canada. He spent most of his life struggling against but now gleefully accepts multiple neurodivergences.

He has a preference for the unconventional with a healthy love of the absurd and comically unfair. He likes to tell stories about loners and outcasts struggling to fit into systems that have rejected them, either as drama or as comedy.

David graduated from University of Toronto with a degree in Assyriology, having spent four years translating three-thousand year old inscriptions from ancient Babylon.  After graduating, he studied improv at Second City and began a career as a comedian doing sketch and stand up. He performed around the continent in several festivals, and went on to win Best Male Stand Up and Best Sketch Troupe in Now Magazine’s reader’s poll two years in a row.

In 2013 David got signed by APA and began his first forays into Hollywood, working with Reggie Watts, Nathan Fielder, Sarah Silverman and others, before eventually being hired for the inaugural writer’s room of the Late Late Show with James Corden. Following that, David worked with Justin Willman, co-creating the show Magic for Humans for Netflix which ran for three seasons.

In addition to comedy, David had a minimally successful music career, writing three rock operas and performing under the name “PDF Format” for a depressingly long time without ever managing to get signed or develop a fan base. Feel free to google and listen to some of my glitchy eight-bit offerings.

David looks forward to the day he wins enough awards that he can qualify for permanent residency. He is represented by David Meese at William Morris Endeavour and Olivia Gerke and Trevor Rotenberg at 3 Arts.  Be well, travelers! (fades into oblivion).
