PopShift: Disability Leaders

Image Description: A grid of 15 Zoom boxes with various people smiling and listening.

On October 5th we co-hosted PopShift: Disability Leaders, which brought together 45 showrunners and executive producers and 45 disability leaders/disabled writers to discuss ways to increase disability representation on-screen. We were grateful to be joined by showrunners and creators from shows such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Friday Night Lights, How I Met Your Mother, and disability leaders including Peabody Award-winning director Jim LeBrecht, writer and creator of #DisabledAndCute Keah Brown, and disability advocate and president of Google’s Disability Alliance Aubrie Lee. The conversations sparked new connections between established industry heavyweights and new talents and created space to address many of the long-standing tropes in disability representation on-screen.
